This month started with a New Moon in Cancer, right on the heels of the vibrant July fireworks. It brings an opportune moment for new beginnings — a time to refresh. This celestial event encourages us to press the reset button and plant seeds for future growth as we listen to what is emerging within us. Embracing this period of clarity can lead to profound personal insights and a renewed sense of direction as you discover the art of making decisions with confidence.
Clarity Is the Catalyst for Change
When it comes to the art of making decisions, one of the most important components of moving forward is clarity. We must have a clear understanding of what we want. Hope cannot exist if we can’t imagine the possibilities of a future we desire to create.
Clarity means to bring clearness or lucidity as to perception or understanding. It can be:
- Freedom from indistinctness or ambiguity
- Freedom from darkness, obscurity, or cloudiness
- Easily seen; sharply defined
- Distinctly perceptible to the ear; easily heard
- Easily understood; without ambiguity
- Entirely comprehensible; completely understood
- Distinct; evident; plain
- Free from confusion, uncertainty, or doubt
When we have clarity, we possess the power to make informed decisions and take decisive actions. Clarity cuts through the fog of hesitation and doubt, allowing us to navigate our paths with confidence and purpose. It illuminates our goals, making them not only visible but also attainable. And it minimizes the “overwhelm” of any transition.
With a clear vision, we can channel our energies more effectively, align our efforts with our true desires, and, ultimately, transform our aspirations into reality. It’s the foundation upon which meaningful progress is built, guiding us toward the future we envision.
Imagination Is the Fuel for Lasting Transformation
When it comes to making meaningful changes, we have two tools at our disposal: imagination and willpower. The question is, which will “win?” Which is the greatest fuel for lasting change?
I believe it is our imagination that fuels our willpower, not the other way around. Holding a clear image and vision of what we want will undoubtedly motivate our behaviors.
For example, if I am on an elimination diet in which dairy is a big “no-no,” and all I can imagine is how amazing a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream would be, then there is a high likelihood I will “break” my diet. However, if my vision and thoughts are consumed with how good I feel when not eating dairy and how my clean diet provides me with so much energy, I will be motivated to stay on course.
Resonating with clarity and what it will provide you is key. When you can genuinely connect with a future goal, you gain clarity and discernment and are able to operate with more ease and joy! When you have clarity and use your imagination instead of sheer willpower, things become effortless even when you face challenges. You will not betray a deeply held belief and desire for what you are working toward.
Awareness of Perspective Provides Insight
Just as important as it is for us to have clarity for ourselves, it is equally important to understand that others may not have the same clarity on what we are communicating. Awareness of this is critical when working in partnership. As I’ve written previously about perspective, others may be filtering through different lenses. Therefore, it is important to bring understanding and clarifying language to your partnerships.
The Art of Making Decisions With Clarity, Imagination, and Perspective
Having a keen sense of clarity, imagination, and awareness of differing perspectives can provide a robust framework for effective decision-making. These elements can be applied to major decisions in life, your career, and your relationships.
Start With Clarity
By defining what you truly want and need, you create a solid foundation from which to make decisions. To apply this, take time to reflect on your long-term objectives and what success looks like for you. Write down your thoughts to ensure they are concrete and actionable.
Ask yourself questions like, “What do I truly want to achieve?” and “What are my non-negotiables?” This self-awareness sets the stage for informed choices.
Engage Your Imagination
When faced with a significant decision, visualization techniques can help you picture different scenarios and their potential outcomes. For example, if you are considering a career change, take some quiet time to vividly imagine yourself in your new role.
Picture your daily routine, interactions with colleagues, and the tasks you would be handling. Visualize the office or outdoor environment, the sense of fulfillment you might feel, and even potential challenges you could face. This exercise can help you uncover hidden opportunities and prepare you mentally and emotionally for the steps ahead.
Consider Perspectives
When making big decisions, it’s valuable to become curious about different perspectives. One way to do this is to work with a life coach who can help you explore different angles and possibilities that you might not have considered on your own. They can provide objective feedback and offer new insights based on their experience.
